Dos Amigos

Our favorite restaurant for special occasions...

Ever since my family moved to Florida back in 1992, we've always made it a tradition to visit the best Mexican restaurant in town, Dos Amigos. We've celebrated pretty much every monumental thing there with Terry, the owner... job promotions, birthdays, my proposal for marriage (well planned with Mom, Dad and sister- Terry brought out a fruit drink with my ring attached to the cherry on top), our first wedding anniversary, first restaurant trip Kaylie ever made (only four days old), good news of family's health, sad news of family's health, Makenzie's first Mexican food experience, and of course Ms. Terry's birthday=)

We hope to continue spending those special moments with such a great woman and restaurant. It's hard to eat just a hand full of the most amazing chips and salsa!

Oh-My!

Well, things are a-changing, again! We LaVella's always have something going on=)

William's job is going great. He's been attending management classes in Orlando now for two weeks. His District Manager complimented him on how well, as an outsider to the company, he's picked up on what's needed to be a great leader. We're hoping those words pay off soon. Lots of hours and hard work are going into making his career in management pay off.

Kaylie has now mastered all letters through M. Each week, she learned special things and did interesting projects to help her understand them. She can recognize and write all upper and lower case letters and knows how to recognize all numbers! It's been so much fun watching her learn about the clock and reading things like the stop sign and speed limit signs. Sometimes we're taken back by how well her handwriting is compared to just five months ago=) We purchased the wipe-off work books to practice letters and numbers... can I just say thank goodness they last for ever, because she does them at least 3 times a day! Her new thing now is making puzzles. She can sit and do them over and over like they're not challenging enough. I think we own every one made from K-Mart, Wal-Mart and the dollar store=)

Makenzie is such a sponge lately! She's come to recognize a bunch of letters and some numbers already. Makenzie loves watching two shows called "Word World" and "Super Why".... great interaction and learning techniques. With all of the new things learned, she's become quite the talker! I just sit back and have a full conversation with her now=)***I got word today from the director at John Casablanca's MTM (Model and Talent Management). The catalog Makenzie was asked to partake in was accepted through another agency, so nothing really came from the original offer to be in it. Makenzie is now listed as "talent" with the company and eligible for bookings/meetings with clients for jobs. Come February 9th, she's attending the Valentine workshop over in Longwood. There, she'll enjoy craft projects, while being video taped, asked to have conversations to include commercial acting (like "I'm Makenzie with MTM", "Milk does a body good", "I love M&M's", etc.), and participate in a runway to themed cute Valentine love songs. YAY- We're beyond excited! Another good bit of news... the director (one of the three judges) remembered Kaylie from the pageant and asked if she would also attend! (Wonder if she's going to be accepted into the agency as well?!?!) I can't wait to have Mommy and daughters time at such an awesome event!

As if our lives aren't challenged enough, we're in the final stages of selling our house. Yes, that means in as little as 30 days, we are outta here! The end of February holds a move for us. To where, I have absolutely no idea. But, I do know there's a lot to do between now and then- from packing to searching, to checking out school districts (Kaylie will be attending the big school- Kindergarten next year), and not losing our minds in the process. We're ready to move forward with what God has planned.

So, enjoy our postings/updates. And, if there are a few prayers out there, please send a few to help make this next month a good one=)

Gymnastics Info Update!

Our Kaylie is moving up... up to the BEGINNERS class that is!

Kaylie was in the Kinder (4-6 years) class since this summer and in December. This past Monday Kaylie joined the Beginners (5-7 years) class. Yup- she's only 4 & 1/2, but is advanced enough to move up to the next level. We're so very proud of her dedication to learning new things and practicing what she's learned. With all of the flips and tumbles throughout our house, all day/every day, she'll enjoy the more active environment.

Here's a short clip of her at the last Kinder class... Kaylie's great at balancing and flips over so ridiculously easy=)

Here are two short clips of her at Monday's Beginner's class=) She's learning back bends!

When it came time to hang from the bar, Kaylie had to hold a bean bag between both feet and pull it up to the bar. She totally blew us out of the water by not even straining or hesitating- straight up! Ms. Jodi almost had a heart attack=) She's got some awesome ab muscles=) I missed catching in, but was able to get her learning to do a cartwheel on the balance beam...

First Sleepover!!!

It's official: Kaylie had her first sleepover! Her best friend Morgan, daughter of our very close friends Heather and David, had Kaylie over Friday night. Plans for a sleepover had been mentioned for a while, but finally we were able to get the girls together. Thanks so much to good friends with great daughters! Kaylie's anxious for the next one=) Check out Heather's blog to see the fun times they had together... http://www.ateamfl.blogspot.com/. Or click the link to the right under "Important Links I Visit".

Ready with her pillow, backpack, and sleeping bagHug time... not sure about going
Ready to go with baby David & Morgan=)

Dinner with Lobsters=)

Friday night was special Mommy and Makenzie time. We went to Red Lobster with Zamma and Auntie Tricia. It was Makenzie's first experience at the very busy restaurant. She enjoyed watching the lobsters and dancing for the other guests waiting. I couldn't have asked for a better behaved kiddo with how well she acted... no fussing, ate almost everything on her plate, as well as mine, and very polite to our server! I think her favorite was dipping the shrimp and lobster in her butter and ketchup- she's definitely a dipper when it comes to food=) The night ended with play time in Mommy's room and then passing out right in the middle of the bed. We shared for a little while until she woke up saying, "Go to my bed now, love you!" It was a very fun night=)

Hmmmm... eenie-meenie-minie-moe! Ahhh... delicious!

Bathroom work...

This past weekend was filled with things we needed to finish from our "To-Do" List=) We're still waiting for some information about our pending house sale, so we decided we couldn't wait any longer... the bathroom needed some tender loving care.

Thanks to the www.freecycle.org web site, I came across a vanity cabinet with sink top and faucet... WOW- what a find, and totally free! We picked it up on Friday and installed it Saturday morning. The faucet it came with didn't quite fit with the existing plumbing, so a trip to Lowes landed us with a really nice one. William did a GREAT job=) Since we had a water leak due to an opening in a shower tile, the flooring really needed to be replaced (plus it was coming apart from poor installation). We headed off to Lowes and purchased the least expensive linoleum tile. Even though a major renovation is needed in there, our bathroom had to get fixed, especially with little kids. We spent most of Monday ripping out old stuff and installing the new. Our days/nights of watching home remodeling and makeovers really paid off... I'm so lucky to have such a handy hubby! =)

Animal Fun

Naps are over, what's next? Play-doh! It is a must-have for those needing to find something creative for your child to do.

Kaylie, Makenzie, Zamma, and I spent the afternoon making fun animals. It started out with making the usual snakes, but then we all decided to make some different kinds. Kaylie was the master of frogs and alligators. She even tried a dolphin as well. Makenzie's favorite was the snake. She made an awesome animal, one we're calling from one of the kid's favorite movies (see below!). Zamma made a mouse, penguin, fish, dolphin, and butterfly. I made an elephant, bird, turtle, octopus, giraffe, panda, and snake.

I'm not sure who had more fun that day?!?!

My favorite... the elephant! Makenzie's polka-dot snake
We called this a Chinese Dragon- from "Mulan"

Kaylie's 1st Hair Cut

After 4 & 1/2 years, it came time for a hair cut... sniffle=)

We've been putting the hair cut off since it took for ever for Kaylie to actually get hair- for all of you who remember, she started growing real hair AFTER she turned one! A few frowns followed since she thought it was going to be shorter like Mommy's. That soon faded when she realized she couldn't touch the bottom by reaching back on her own. Now she loves saying how short her hair is... Zamma cut off about 3 & 1/2 inches!

Makenzie wasn't too sure of what was going on...
Wow- that's a lot! Thanks Zamma!

ONE YEAR!

Congratulations, Grandpa Mel!!! As of January 4th, he's been cigarette free for a full year- WAHOO! What an accomplishment:)

We're definitely grateful for the extra special time taken out of Grandpa and Grandma's busy schedule to visit with us. We enjoyed a nice visit today, filled with lots of hugs, laughter, cat-naps, playtime, and good food! William and I are thankful for all of the Halloween and Christmas decorations they brought over to pass down to us. Bring on the holidays!

Kaylie was greeted at school with Grandpa's hugs. She was so excited, making sure she stayed good all morning so she could visit with him. While Kaylie was at gymnastics, Makenzie was able to play with Grandpa for a while and share the back seat on the way to dropping Daddy off for work. She got so comfy with him next to her that she dozed off for a nice nap. When Grandma came back from visiting a friend, we all headed down to Daddy's Pizza Hut for a yummy dinner. The girls, Grandpa, Grandma, Zamma, Auntie Tricia and I had a really nice time together! Plus, Daddy made some pretty great tasting food for us=) Next visit together is Sea World!

Makenzie loves hugging GrandpaAhhh... Grandpa's so comfy!*Thanks for helping fix our messed up outlet!*

Pillow "fight"

Kaylie and Makenzie found a new use for their pillow cases... tackle time! They love walking around the house like little ghosts. After running around for a bit, they tackle Daddy and each other. It's kind of funny watching little feet wiggling around from the bottom of the case. The best is slowly pulling them down the hallway while they're inside. The hard part is watching them pull one another- bump- right into the wall! At least they think it's funny:) It's the inexpensive things that make the most laughter!

Okay... it's cold!

Finally, after weeks of ridiculously hot weather, we got cold. Yesterday held highs in the 50's. Last night brought us down to 28 degrees! Melbourne was under the freezing point for 3 hours. Plus, Central Florida even had some flurries over here on the coast. Unfortunately, it wasn't very noticeable. Believe me, I would have been the first one out in the cold to snap a picture:) The winter just after Kaylie was born brought some flurries out at Cape Canaveral. Since we lived in Orlando, we couldn't make it over in time to see.
We baked a bunch of cookies last night, hoping that would heat the house up enough- NOT! Our wall furnace should have been turned on. Around 4am, both girls made their way into our bed, making for a wiggly, yet comfortable morning. We finally got the furnace on and now the house is like an oven! At least it's going to be cold again tonight:) We'll take it any way we can get the cold weather. Ironically, we'll be back in the upper 70's lower 80's by Monday- UGH! :(

Brrrr!
You know it's cold out when smiley faces can be seen:)

Happy New Year

We rang in the new year with the girls at our friends Heather and David's house. Along with their children, we also enjoyed time with Craig "the bartender", Matt, Sam, and Vanessa. The girls did a great job playing while the adults played some games and drank some pretty interesting mixes. At 4 o'clock in the morning, things started to come to an end. Makenzie fell asleep around 10:30 with Kaylie and William around 2am. (He needed to be at work by 2pm new year's day.) All in all, we had a blast!
The four of us spent the night so no one had to worry about the crazy people on the roads. Our morning started up around 9am with a nice bacon and egg brunch. The parade kept a few of us interested while the others enjoyed playing and waking up:) Thanks Heather and David for a great time! Goodbye 2007... Hello 2008!
